Ghana Needs Strong Political Will To Address Sanitation Problem

IMG_20160716_081016-1080x675Lack of strong political leadership and weak law enforcement have been identified as the main obstacles hindering the country’s quest to solve the sanitation problem.

At a public lecture on sanitation organised by Medialink in Accra on Wednesday, the panellist and audience also cited the complex nature of sanitation institutional management and called on government to crack the whip to address the challenges.

The forum unanimously agreed that the president should make sanitation a priority when evaluating the various local metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives.

Speaking on the topic ‘Unlocking Ghana’s Sanitation Puzzle: Form Policy to Implementation,’ Professor Chris Gordon, Director of the Institute for Environment and Sanitation Studies at the University of Ghana, Legon, called for a holistic approach in order to prevent the effects of sanitation.

He said, without state support to deal with sanitation challenges forcefully, the President Akufo-Addo administration’s vision to make Ghana’s capital, Accra, the cleanest city in Africa by the end of his first term would not be achieved.

Prof. Gordon said no one was insulated from sanitation threats adding that there was the need to coil the impunity, immorality, pride, envy, and greed.

He called on stakeholders to build synergies, find novel ways of adding value to the waste generated and educate the public especially the youth to change their perception that shit business was a serious business.

Mr. Sagane Thiaw, Operations Director, World Vision International, reiterated that Water, Sanitation and Hygiene had always been our ministry’s core priority.

He said the organisation’s campaign had been able to deliver 207 Open Defecation Free (ODF) communities, provided 63 gender and disability friendly institutional latrines with changing rooms for menstrual hygiene management and capacity building for 85 latrine artisans.

Working together with stakeholders he said, 25 Municipal and District Assemblies officers had received training in their respective capacities built especially in the implementation of the Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) approach.

Mr Thiaw urged government to pay more attention to issues of sanitation in order to save children and the good people of this country from avoidable ailments and deaths, poverty and the shame associated with being one of the poorest countries in terms of basic sanitation.

‘It is unacceptable that only 15 per cent of the Ghanaian population has access to improved sanitation, 19 per cent practicing Open Defecation, 59 per cent sharing latrines, while over 58 per cent of solid waste is either crudely or indiscriminately disposed of and 2 per cent of all waste generated in Ghana is effectively recycled.

He said the statistics had negative consequences for the health and wellbeing of our society and requires urgent attention.

‘World Vision has decided to further prioritise sanitation by giving it a lot more attention, allocating increased resources, building adequate capacity and establishing strategic partnerships with governments and it allied agencies as well as none state actors to deliver improved sanitation and hygiene services’.

Playing Chelsea Was My Biggest Dream – Essien

michael-essien-chelsea_1wyvr3l0vm2ih1n13yupm12sr6Chelsea legend and Ghanaian midfield powerhouse, Michael Essien, insists he wouldn’t have settled for anything less than playing in the English Premier League.

Essien, who was drafted to Stamford Bridge from French club Lyon by then Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, said when the deal was finally sealed for him to ply his trade in England, he could not hide his excitement.

Recounting the circumstances that led to his switch from the French club to the London side in the summer of 2005, the 35-year-old said it all started when he was having a barbecue in the house of his teammate, Florent Malouda when Didier Drogba called to speak to him.

“The whole thing came about one afternoon while I was at Florent Malouda’s house, having a barbecue,” Essien recalled.

“He got a call from Didier Drogba asking about me, and he said, “Oh, Michael is right here.” He put him on the phone to me and that’s how everything started.

“It was a very long saga, that transfer, and very frustrating that it took so long because I really wanted to come to the Premier League.

“In the end, we managed to come to an agreement and I was really excited when I first walked into the club at Chelsea,” Essien said.

Essien, who spent nine years with the Stamford Bridge club and helped them win many silverware, including the 2012 UEFA Champions League, said he had great respect for his former French side but couldn’t miss the opportunity of playing in a much bigger club.

“As I said, it was my dream to play in the Premier League and Chelsea showed a very big interest in me, so when the deal went through I was very happy. I came in and everything went well.”

10 WAYS TO MAKE A WOMAN FALL MADLY IN LOVE WITH YOU

After you meet a woman and date her, you get to know her better. You probably start feeling closer to her and may even find yourself falling in love with her. But her feelings may still remain a mystery to you. You’re not even sure whether you’re doing things right. How can you get her to fall in love with you? Here are 10 ways that you can make a woman fall in love with you, and at the end of it, she’s sure to be crazy about you.
1. Display maturity
It’s always said that women mature faster than guys and are often found complaining about how immature they act. Impress her with the way you deal with situations and your outlook on the whole. Show her how responsible you are about finances, or serious you are about your career. And demonstrate your ability to think clearly and rationally when disagreements crop up or a conflict of interests presents itself.
TIP: Women love it when a guy takes interest in their likes, dislikes, interests, family, childhood and so many other areas. Talking to her about herself is the best way to make her fall in love. ‘Tell Me Honey…2000 Questions for Couples’ is a best-selling book from Amazon that will help you draw out a woman with questions. This book has 2000 questions across 75 categories including love, romance, sex and relationships. Let her reveal herself to you, one question at a time and before you know it, she’ll be in love with you! This ‘must-have’ book is also available as an instant download.book
2. Romance her
Make her feel good by keeping the romance alive in the relationship. You don’t have to spend a whole lot of money doing this. Sure, there isn’t a woman alive who doesn’t adore flowers and gifts, but you can also do things that don’t cost a lot but can still enhance your relationship. Write her little notes or send her a mushy card. Call her up just to tell her you’re thinking about her and can’t wait to see her again. Be attentive and make her feel cherished and truly special.
3. Faithful
Don’t ever give her occasion to doubt you. Let her know that you have eyes only for her and the rest of the world takes a backseat. Let her sense your commitment to her and your relationship. Being able to trust someone and truly rely on him is a very powerful feeling. So many people profess deep feelings and then cheat on their partners. Don’t just tell her but show her that she can count on you. Women need to feel secure and once that is established, it takes the relationship to a higher level.
4. Time spent with her is precious
Make it clear that you really treasure the time you spend with her, irrespective of what you’re doing together. And prove it! For instance, if she suddenly tells you she’d like to meet you because she’s finishing work early and you had something else lined up, cancel it for her. That doesn’t mean you cater to her to the exclusion of everything else, just that you sometimes sacrifice something you care about to be with her. If she begs you to come see a movie and you had plans with your buddies, do it for her and let her know subtly that you did. She will surely reward you! Women also love it if you do some girly stuff with them like shopping for lingerie, and aren’t afraid of sacrificing your masculinity in the process. It just makes you more of a man in their eyes!
5. Compliment her
You don’t have to go over the top always telling her how good she looks or how gorgeous her hair is or what a lovely outfit she’s wearing. A compliment has more effect when it is sincere, well timed and often, out of the blue. While a woman always loves hearing that she’s looking good, you can’t keep telling her that. It will lose its charm eventually. A compliment is valued when there is a surprise element to it. Telling her how witty you find her, how her intelligence turns you on, appreciating how thoughtful and generous she can be, or her gentle nature, all these are deeper compliments, which, when paid sincerely, make the recipient feel ten feet tall.
6. Laughter
Use humor as your biggest ally. If she enjoys your company and looks forward to seeing you again, you’re rapidly becoming an addiction, and that’s just what you’re aiming for. It’s not about making her laugh over your one-liners and finding you hilarious. It’s more about being on the same wavelength and enjoying the other’s sense of humor too. Or finding humor in similar situations or having a favorite serial or sitcom, which you talk about and cracks you up. Finding the same joke funny, or sharing a smile, draws you closer and makes you feel like kindred spirits. It’s a great feeling!
7. Learn what turns her on
And use it to advantage. Find out just the kind of touch that excites her, how she loves to be kissed. Don’t ever push her for sex or make her uncomfortable by coming on too strong. Let her see the effect she has on you, yet keep a strong rein on your passions if she decides she wants to call a stop to it. Let her set the pace, and ensure she understands that while your desires for her are strong, you will respect the limits she sets. Respect her and her body and she will appreciate you more for it. Women love it when they can see how much they turn you on and yet find you willing to take it slow for their sake. Also, when you make love to her, don’t always kiss her or caress her as a lead up to having sex. Do it just to make her feel special and because you want to convey that to her, and she will adore you for it.
8. Give her space
Don’t be possessive and make her account to you regarding her whereabouts. Let her know you trust her. Don’t expect her to spend all her free time with you. Let her have her own life too. Often when in a relationship, people make the mistake of spending every waking moment that they can manage together, and in the process, alienate themselves from friends and even lose their identity. Let her be her own person.
9. Thoughtful
You remember little things she told you, and remind her of it at opportune moments. It may be that she once mentioned she loves having chicken soup when she’s got a cold, and you land up with some when she’s got the sniffles. Or she’s told you how she adores a particular entrée at a popular restaurant and the next time you go there, you order it and surprise her. It makes her feel like you genuinely listen to her and take the trouble to act on it and make her happy.
10. “I love you”
And of course, while showing her should give her the message, there’s a lot to be said for saying it loud and clear. Tell her how important she is to you. You might want to think about when you’re first going to tell her those three words. If it’s too early in the relationship, she might be skeptical that you could feel so deeply so soon. And thereafter, it’s not just choosing the right moment, but making every small moment count. You don’t have to wait only till you’re kissing her, or in bed. Saying it when it’s least expected makes it all the more precious. She might be telling you something and the feeling just overwhelms you – tell her at that instant. She won’t mind being interrupted mid-sentence.

7 MUSICIANS WHO SINGS JUST LIKE DADDY LUMBA

Charles Kwadwo Fosu, known in music circles as Daddy Lumba is perhaps the only Ghanaian musician who has the highest number of ‘sing-alikes.’
After successfully etching his name in the annals of Ghanaian music as one of the best musicians, he has also impacted greatly on other musicians. Some of these musicians either through inspiration, admiration or copy-cat tendencies sound like him.
Daddy Lumba made an entry into the music industry in the early 1980s with ‘Yereye Aka Akwantuo Mu’ which he did with Nana Acheampong (they were then known as Lumba Brothers).
Since then, he has consistently released a lot of monster hit songs, thereby making him one of the most sought-after highlife musicians in Ghana.
Some musicians who sing like the ‘Aben Waha’ hit maker are Dada KD, Paapa Shee, Ofori Amponsah, Kofi Nti, Ama Ba, Richie Rich and Anokye Supremo (formerly DL Junior).
i. Dada KD
Born Dada Kwaku Duah, Dada KD is well known for his velvety voice and songs about love.
Some of his songs include ‘Ebeboawo,’ ‘Obiara Se Eye,’ ‘Somgye’ and ‘Mewura.’
He was adjudged Best Male Vocal Artist (Ghana Music Awards) in Britain in 2004 by Ghanaians resident in Britain.
Dada KD once worked with bands like RELATIVES in Germany, with Kojo Antwi’s Band, Tropical Vibes (Accra) and also with Amakye Dede’s band.
ii.

Papa Shee

Papa Shee (now a minister of the gospel) is well known for songs like ‘Koyoonsor,’ ‘Atadwe,’ ‘Yaa Asantewa,’ ‘Atepa,’ among others.
Previously known as the Wonder Boy, he used to perform at a lot of Ghanaian entertainment events in the United States of America when he was at his prime.
Paapa Shee was the first Ghanaian musician to release a DVD on the music scene.
Dancing since he was six years old, he became known early in his teenage years as a lead danger for many famous Ghanaian recording artists such as Dady Lumba and the late Mr.AAA (Akwasi Amphofo Adjei).
iii. Ofori Amponah
Ofori Amponsah is a highlife musician who took a foray into gospel music and ministry few years ago but returned when it occurred to him he had not really been called for God’s work.
He is a protégé of Daddy Lumba. He first got the exposure in the music industry when he was featured on Daddy Lumba’s album ‘Wo Ho Kyere.’
On the song, their voices sound too similar that one has to really strain to differentiate between which is Lumba’s and which is Ofori’s.
After releasing his own production ‘Asew’ under Owusek Productions in 2001, he became a household name.
He followed with albums like ‘Mepraw.’
In 2005, Amponsah released ‘Otoolege’ which had KK Fosu, Kofi Nti, and Barosky.
Mr. All for Real won big the next year at the Ghana Music Awards with seven awards. ‘Otoolege’ won him 2005 VGMA Artist of the Year.
In 2015 when he released ‘Alewa’ after making a u-turn from the word for the ‘world.’
Ofori Amponsah later admitted that starting the Family of Faith and Love Ministries was a miscalculated step.
iv. Kofi Nti
Kofi Nti is another artiste whose style of singing and vocal texture bears great resemblance to Daddy Lumba’s.
Born on the 25th January, 1980, Kofi Nti comes from Aburi in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
His ‘Rakia’ featured some of Ghana’s most renounced best artistes namely K.K Fosu, Ofori Amponsah, and Isaac Mensah Obeng (Barosky).
He also has songs like ‘Monica,’ ‘Atwetan,’ ‘Odo Nwom,’ and others.
v. Ama Ba
Amaba may not be as popular as the others but he also released a couple of highlife songs. In fact, until Anokye Supremo, most people considered his voice as the closest in similarity to Daddy Lumba’s.
He has not been visible in the music industry recently but he is known for songs like Nipa Nye Nyame.
On 20th October, 2016 George Kwabena Opoku (real name) ditched secular music for gospel with the launch of his album ‘My Soul’ which has tracks like ‘Nipa Nnye Nyame,’ ‘Onim Nea Oye’ and ‘Ebenezer.’
vi. Richie Rich
Richie Rich is well known for his feature on C-Zar’s ‘Mercy Loko’ and ‘Befe Ma No.’ He did the chorus on those songs

.

He was inspired to do music when he started listening to Charles Kwadwo Fosu (Daddy Lumba) and Ofori Amponsah.
He got featured on some of Ofori Amponsah’s songs after he was introduced to him by C-Zar.
Richie has songs like ‘Nsroma,’ ‘Tasty’.
vii. Anokye Supremo
Undoubtedly, Emmanuel Kwame Anokye known showbiz as Anokye Supremo is the only artiste who does not sing just like Daddy Lumba, but also a spit image of the highlife legend.
He was discovered through a TV Africa-produced reality show, ‘Just Like You’ which took place in 2010.
Just Like You’ was a reality TV show which gave artistes the platform to mimic their favourite celebrities. Anokye Supremo imitated Daddy Lumba.
After the show, Anokye Supremo (DL Jnr.) who has similar looks as Daddy Lumba has been plying his trade as a musician.
On 17th January, 2018, Daddy Lumba filed a lawsuit at the Accra High Court alleging that Anokye had claimed to be his son and even impersonated him to get gifts from people.
He further alleged that Anokye had a history of impersonating him since his appearance on a
Even though the case is still pending in court, the Lumba look-alike changed his name from DL Junior to Anokye Supremo.
He has songs songs like ‘Befa Me,’ ‘Efri Nea Efire, ‘Krom Aye De’ and the latest ‘Hash Wuish.’

Time is right for LeBron James for new challenge after delivering on promise in Cleveland

His greatest talent, more than the chase-down block and the floating fadeaway shot and the court vision and the ability to showcase on the floor like no big man before, is his sense of timing. That’s why he’s going to the Los Angeles Lakers. It’s time, you see. LeBron James left the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Miami Heat in 2010 because hooking up with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh presented his best chance to finally win a championship. He returned to the Cavs four years later to fulfill a broken promise and give Cleveland the chance to throw the world’s happiest block party when that suffering city finally snapped its 52-year professional sports championship spell, making him a civic immortal in the process. And now the four-time MVP and 14-time All-Star is headed to the Lakers, the tinsel franchise, and this choice is equal parts personal and professional. This is the city where his iconic basketball career will most likely end and his post-career will begin. This is where he can play for a man he respects, Magic Johnson, and on a team that can be built into a beast. This is where his family enjoys living and his teenaged son, Bronny, can become engaged in the competitive Southern California prep basketball scene. This is where LeBron, who has a film production company, can gain a firmer foothold in the entertainment business, which by all accounts is where he wants to make his next fortune.

Why LeBron James left Cleveland for Los Angeles.

Yes, it’s time, for LeBron and obviously the Lakers, and this sense of clockwork just might work out tremendously for both. Their paths were careening towards a welcome collision that shook the NBA Sunday when LeBron announced he will sign a free agent deal with the Lakers. And not a short-term deal, either, as he did in Miami and throughout his second tour with the Cavs. No, LeBron is locked in for four years, and that means he’s willing to give Magic enough time to stitch together a good enough squad to make the Golden State Warriors twitchy. He joins a bunch of green bananas that’s not quite ready for June … but wait another 15 minutes because Magic isn’t done yet. The Lakers missed out on Paul George, who announced plans to re-sign with Oklahoma City. And Chris Paul, best buds with LeBron, took the Rockets’ money and stayed put. But there’s enough salary cap flex and assets to re-arrange the furniture overnight if the Lakers choose. They’re still in the sweepstakes for disgruntled star and LA-native Kawhi Leonard and have interest in signing free agent center DeMarcus Cousins. If neither of those options are in play this year, Magic seems more than willing to keep his young team intact and wait until the summer of 2019. Why the patience? Well, Leonard will be an unrestricted free agent then, if he doesn’t have a change of heart and signs a contract extension with San Antonio (or wherever he spends the 2018-19 season). There’s Jimmy Butler and Kemba Walker ready to reach the marketplace. Also, Klay Thompson, whose father Mychal draws a Laker paycheck as a team broadcaster, hits free agency next summer, and signing him would weaken the Warriors in the process.Anyway, who knows, maybe Kyle Kuzma or Brandon Ingram or Lonzo Ball (or Julius Randle if he re-signs) will by then develop into potential stars or important pieces on a contender. What’s great about the Lakers’ situation is they have options, and most are good and promising, and half of their problems are already solved because they have LeBron, a licensed one-man NBA Finals hauling crew. It says plenty about Magic and owner Jeanie Buss that LeBron found the Lakers intriguing enough to leave Cleveland and sign up. When Buss assumed controlling interest of the franchise three years ago, she sought Magic’s counsel and then hired him to run the basketball operations. It was a solid match, these old friends, with Jeanie Buss providing the necessary resources to polish a franchise gone stale, and Magic radiating with appeal and still carrying clout among potential free agents. He promised Buss that the necessary steps would be taken to develop stars and acquire stars, something the Lakers have done habitually and brilliantly in their history and especially under the late Jerry Buss. This is where Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Shaquille O’Neal arrived and tasted success, and where Jerry West and Kobe Bryant spent their entire careers. No question, Jeanie Buss and Magic Johnson sold all that glam to LeBron. They probably all but promised him a statue outside the crowded Staples Center entrance and the chance to have a third jersey retired (after Cleveland and Miami eventually do what’s right and expected). On Sunday, the first day of free agency, Magic was at LeBron’s home in LA, no doubt in full charming mode. Although that probably wasn’t terribly necessary. As a student of the game with an appreciation for history, LeBron already had a measure of admiration for Magic the player. But it was Magic the executive who sealed LeBron’s signature by moving mountains in a matter of mere months on the job. Magic cleared the salary cap of lead poison (with only Luol Deng’s remaining $38 million clunker left) while loading up on percolating young talent in Ingram, Kuzma, Ball and Josh Hart. The blueprint to fetch LeBron was done quickly, early and smoothly, allowing the Lakers to improve from within and beyond.

How the Lakers salary cap shapes up with LeBron coming aboard.

When you consider the entire enthralling package — on-hand talent and room to add another A-list player or two, and star-struck Hollywood heavyweights sitting courtside and willing to do business with the game’s best player — it just seemed the right move for LeBron at the right time.

If you wish to cast a wary eye at an all-time great who’s on the move once again, at least applaud him for taking the harder road this time. He could’ve remained in the Easy East and joined the up-and-coming Sixers or stayed in Cleveland and made a ninth consecutive run for the Finals. Instead, he’s venturing West and just down the street from the Warriors, and doing it — at the moment, anyway — without a fellow superstar riding shotgun.

And there’s risk. He brings 15 seasons of heavy wear from deep runs into June at a high level. He’ll turn 34 next season; while LeBron was brilliant at age 33, sometimes Father Time comes knocking without warning or compassion. In that sense, he’s on the clock, and the closer he creeps to the last year of that contract, the more help he’ll need to keep playing into June.

Regardless where and how far he goes yearly with the Lakers, LeBron stressed how much his family would have a major voice in his next stop. The move to Miami was mainly selfish. The return to Cleveland was more out of a sense of duty and to gain a measure of public acceptance. Here, the family weighs in. They love the lifestyle and obvious advantages of being in LA. This was a group decision after a huddle.

Plus, it’s not lost on LeBron how Magic became a corporation after retirement, thanks to powerful LA connections. LeBron wants to produce movies and documentaries and be on the forefront of a changing entertainment landscape. He can now rub the same shoulders as he begins to build an empire that’s heavily influenced by Hollywood and technology.

So this feels right, seems right for LeBron James, who’ll likely hold multiple major NBA career records and basketball achievements before he’s done. This move represents a twist to his legacy, an opportunity to align himself among the long line of Laker greats and a win-win for his family and business interests. It’s his final basketball lap which he hopes turns into a victory lap.

It’s the right place, right time and right team for yet another superstar who’s just right for the Lakers.
